This paper seeks to address the challenging and complex relationship between transitional justice and peacebuilding. Moving beyond the justice versus peace debate, we will aim to provide a foundation to conceptualise the relationship between the two and outline possible ways forward.
Some scholarly analysts, and indeed some policymakers, continue to view "peace" and "justice" as simply in conflict with each other, while their relationship in practice is far more complex. This paper will not re-engage with this debate but think more constructively about how the complex and evolving practices of transitional justice engage with peacemaking and peacebuilding.
